A Breach in the Cole Protocol Empty
PostSubject: A Breach in the Cole Protocol   A Breach in the Cole Protocol I_icon_minitimeThu Apr 07, 2011 10:21 pm

(Note: Droa is trying to capture a functioning AI.)

The Reagan, A UNSC Marathon Class Cruiser, was patrolling the Outskirts of the Paris IV system when it picked up a small anomaly, but it was looked over as a mechanical error. Little did they realize that that Slipspace anomaly was actually a small infiltration craft, carrying a elite Sangheili strike team, the leader of who was Droa Falumee. Soon they would take on an entire cruiser. Their goal was to acquire a functioning AI from the humans. Not because they wanted navigational data. Droa wanted to bolster the capability of his carrier and his army by turning a human AI to his side. By this time Droa and his crew considered themselves heretics, but kept it quiet, out of fear of the Hierarchs ability to bring the entire fleet down on them.

Commander Jones was the captain of the Reagan. Serving almost for 12 years of the Human-Covenant War, he had much experience dealing with the Covenant, including what to do to initiate the Cole Protocol. "Eva, I want you to analyze that small anomaly." Eva was a new type of Combat and Intelligence AI. She was designed as a Smart AI that could manage entire flotillas of ships. But she was truly special in one particular way. She was a prototype to have a compressible memory and banks for it. She was designed to mitigate the 7 year limit for Smart AI's. In practice, she could last as long as her hardware could sustain her.

"Yes sir. I appears to be a small lifepod. I can not tell if it is UNSC or Covenant." "It is very likely a Human lifepod. We are to far away from Covenant space for it to be otherwise. Pull it in and bring in Medical and Combat teams. Just in case." "Copy that sir."

Soon the main hangar aboard Reagan was bustling with activity. Many were glad for the change in pace on the ship. Little did they realize that they were in for a very nasty shock.

Droa felt his ship touch down in the Hangar. He turned to his strike team. "Alright. Remember the plan. Deactivate the ships electronics before they can purge it. Kill the ships Captain and take his implants. Take the AI and return here. The Light of Honor will then jump here and take us away. Prepare men!" Droa and his Sangheili gave a battle cry and burst the door open.

The Marines were taken by complete surprise. By the time they were able to pull the charging handles on their MA5B's, Droa and his team had opened fire. Many lay dead, but the Marines bravely held their ground. A short firefight erupted in the hangar, but the Marines lost. One final Marine ran to warn of the Covenant, but Droa, who was a true marksman, dropped his with a single shot from his Carbine. "Kill the power!!!" he yelled to his tech expert. The Sangheili ran to the nearest access panel and placed a EMP charge on it. The detonation spread through the entire power grid on the ship, rendering all electronics offline. "Now it gets fun."

OOC: I´ll be playing this game with Nathan and Kowalsky. Okay?

Private Kowalsky stared at the monitor. This was the only job they had? In the entire ship? Watch some readings from a cyrotube? Private sighed. This wasn´t his lucky day, not at all. But it could be worst. He could be out there somewhere fighting of the Covenant. Only the though gave him shivers. He had almost died last time when they faced Covenant trooppers. All the sudden, his monitor started blinking. Kowalsky looked first at the screen then the cyrotube. Nothing was moving there. So what was it? He quickly grabber the mouse started clicking and scrolling trough the computer. Few moments later his eyes widened. They had found a small escape pod wandering trough the space. Private Kowalsky didn´t like that. An escape pod sailing trough the space? Very unlikely. Private pressed some buttons on the keyboard and instantly camera views from the hangar popped up on the screen. He smiled slighly as he turned the camera a little bit too see the pod. The pod looked like a normal human escape pod. But something bothered him. There hadn´t been any major conflitcs lately. So where had it come from? Private looked over the computer at the spartan lying in there. He had a feeling that the spartan would be waked soon.

Ten minutes later, as the pod was in the hangar, something that Kowalsky had feared, happened. The door at the end of the pod opened and Elites ran out. Private almost fell off his chair. The worst thing had happened. Kowalsky gulped as the Elite´s slaughtered the Marines and other personel inside the hangar. Private stood still in his chair, adrenalien pumping trough his veins. He needed to react quickly. He must close the door leading to other parts of the ship and the open the airlocks to kill the Elites. Yes, that sounded like a good plan to him. Kowalsky started tapping the keyboard as fast as he could. Yes... Only few seconds anymore.... 3 ...... 2 ..... 1 .... He touched the button and smiled. He had saved the ship.
But why is it so dark in here, Private thought as he leaned over the monitor towards the cyropod. It was working, with back-up power ofcourse. Kowalsky slammed his fists trough the keyboard. He was so close, so close.....

Suddenly the lights on the cyro-pod started blinking. The pod´s "door" opened and Nathan stepped out. He swept the area. No targets only, a private crouching behind the desk.
"What is the situation ?" Nathan asked.
"The Covenant is onboard. T-T-They have cut the power trough out the ship." Kowalsky answered with a scared voice. Spartan started walking towards the first door, trying to open it.
"It´s on a security lockdown. No one gets in or out." Private said carefully. Nathan observed the door. It didn´t seem so though. He streched his fingers and punched a hole trough the class and then ripped off the other side of the door. Nathan looked around, still feeling dizzy from the time spent in the cyro sleep.
"Where is the bridge?" Nathan asked from the Marine. He was doing something with the wires leading from the pods.
"Oh, it´s that way." Private pointed down the corridor. Kowalsky then sighed and got up.
"Look, i´m going to stay here. I´ll try to get the power on again." He then turned towards the computer and hooked the wires. There was a silent thump as the electricy started running again. Not in the entire ship though, only in the cyro room. Nathan nodded to the Private and started sprinting towards the bridge.

Sparta arrived to the bridge which was heavily fortified, due the Covenant´s presence. He was immidietly called inside for briefing of the situation.
"Did you sleep well?" Commander Jones asked whilst standing facing the -now empty- monitor.
"Until this happened." Nathan answered.
"Well, I thought so...." Jones as he walked to another monitor and continued: " We have set an permiter, which is holding... so far. We need you to eliminate the Covenant, ASAP." Nathan nodded and shifted his footing.
"Anything else that I should know?"
"Hmm..... No, nothing." Commander answered and waved his hand. "I said ASAP, Spartan."

Sixty minutes later he arrived to the last permiter checkpoint. There were three AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun emplaced and about twenty Marines all checking their weapons or carrying ammo to the Machine Guns. They all seemed nervous and Nathan knew why. If the bridge had sended a Spartan down here, the situation must be really bad. Spartan walked trough the Marines and jumped over the small barricade set in corridor. He then pulled out his rifle and started slowly walking the corridor, turning right at the end. Marines watched him go until they coudn´t seem him anymore.
"Who bets he won´t return alive?" One of them asked quietly.

PostSubject: Re: A Breach in the Cole Protocol   A Breach in the Cole Protocol I_icon_minitimeTue May 10, 2011 11:25 pm

Droa and his elite Sangheili commando's rested in a small armory about halfway to the bridge. Droa had already been part of a boarding action on one of the smaller, older 'Halcyon' class cruiser. But the 'Reagan' was about twice the size, and had twice the crew. For being smaller then his race, they put up quite the defensive struggle. By the time they reached their position, they had to break through three locked bulkheads, and they were getting worn out. Droa removed his rebreather and took in a deep breath. He hated being aboard a hostile ship. You could never be sure what was around the next corner. They knew that if the humans were able to return power, then they could purge their AI, which was what Droa was after. So he formulated a new plan. He called for his team "Alright men, gather close. At the rate we are advancing, they will be able to purge their AI. I believe there are some service vents nearby. If we can disable or destroy their fusion reactor, we can disable power forever. Now are their any questions?" None of his team argued against the plan. for one, they too knew they were moving too slow. And they wanted more time to rack up human kills. They fitted their rebreathers, checked their weapons, and moved forward.

Droa located the service vents and spliced into the security, turning the controls off. He then pried the doors open forcefully. All six of the Sangheili moved into the vents. Due to the small size of the vents, the Sangheili had to crawl through the vents individually. This made them perfect targets, but no one guarded the vents, so they made it through. Droa located the Engine section directly beneath his vent. He drew his Plasma Pistol out, dumped the energy into the chamber, and fired a overcharged shot onto a grating. The blistering heat easily boiled through the steel vent. When the hole was large enough, General Falumee jumped through the vent, flowed by his commando team. They landed on a catwalk without any guardrails, which would have protected them from a almost 75 foot drop. Two Engineers spotted the Sangheili squad and ran for help. Droa reacted by sprinting for one for one, while shoving the other off the catwalk. Droa heard as the human hit the floor, causing a majority of his bones to break instantly. He pinned the Engineer against the wall, and barked in near perfect English "Give me the codes to the Reactor controls and I'll let you get to a life pod. The young techie, who had never seen a Sangheili face to face, and, from what Droa could smell had soiled himself, gave him the code without any interrogation. "The code is 'All under the Heavens'." Droa looked at the human with disgust. He simply gave up the code without any struggle. Droa was merciful, but he expected some honor from his opponents. Droa activated his wrist blade and shoved it into the humans heart, killing him instantly. Droa tossed the body to the side as if he was some child who got bored with a toy. "Lets jettison the fuel rods."

As soon as they found the terminal, Droa entered the code. And it worked. Droa typed in the order to jettison the fuel rods into space. Without any fuel, the ship fell completely dead. There was no power, and everything was black as night. Droa and his Sangheili turned their night vision on, and proceeded back to the bridge. Now the fun could begin.

OOC: Were the vents on the ceilling or on the floor level? And does happen after the Inflitration or before it?

Private Kowalsky was tapping his keyboard, when he heard something move. Filled with fear he slided down from his chair behind a barricade he had hastily constucted. IF Covenant would come to his position his little barricade woudn´t last very long. Kowalsky breathed faster now. He was armed only with his M6G handgun and little ammo for it. Private was now practically shaking. He closed his eyes and prayed for God, for anything that would allow him to survive. Private then took a deep breath and rose from his cover. Nothing. Nothing at all. But he could still hear something moving. Kowalsky tried to look for any sinhs if there would be any camouflaged enemies. He then slowly started moving towards the door that was ripped open by the Spartan. Kowalsky peeked out from the door. Nothing there either. So what was it? Private backed away from the door and sitted to his seat. He would end up dead or so nervous that he would kill himself. Kowalsky shaked his head. No, he would survive this and see Earth again.... Someday...

Nathan moved slowly trough the dark corridors. Even though the main power was down, the ship still had its back-up power. The Captain had told him that there were techs send to repair the main reactors in order to bring the power on. If they will succes, Jones would send Marines all over the ship to search for the Covenant. The Spartan took a turning to the right and noticed something. An armory that was open. That coudn´t be right, all the doors would be locked as per security protocols. Nathan crouched and checked his motion sensor. It was empty. So if there was any hostiles in the armory, they were not moving or doing anything else either. Spartan slowly moved trough the corridor towards the armory. He was constantly checking his motion sensor for any hostile activity in close proximity. After a time that felted like a eternity, he reached the armory. Nathan took a deep breath and dashed in. He quickly swept the are with his sight. Empty. Spartan was about to lowered his weapon when something dropped infront of him. Nathan rolled and fired five bullets from his MA5K Carbine. The bullets didn´t meet anything organic and hitted the floor. Nathan lowered his weapon as he moved closer towards the thing that had dropped down from the foor. It looked like a door to somekind of service vent. Nathan didn´t have to know anything else.

"Brige this is Nathan. Can you hear me?" Nahan said over the com.
"This is bridge, what is it?" A female voice asked.
"I need to know where the service vent of armory," Nathan looked around for the number of the armory.
"B-5, Spartan? Is that what you mean?" She asked with a voice little amused.
"Yes." Spartan asked with an indignant voice.
"The only vent leads to the reactor room." She answered. Nathan stopped for a moment to think her words. So the Covenant wants to get to the reactor room. They were about to cripple the Reagan
for good.
"Send Marines down to the reactor room ASAP. The Covenant are trying to cut the power off." Nathan answered quickly while moving towards the nearest door out of this corridor.
"Nonsense. They are only trying to get here." Commander John answered now.
"Now, find those Covenant bas...." And the com went dead. Spartan looked around. Nothing was working, even the emergeny power was cut off. This ment that very soon, there wouldn´t be any oxygen. It wouldn´t bother Nathan; his suit was air-tight so he could survive long enough to find a pelican. But it sure would be a problem to the other staff humans aboard Reagan.

Spartan had a plan. He needed to pursue the Covenant trooppers, eliminate them and set up an evacuation. First of all he had to find them. Nathan sprinted trough the empty and dark corridors relying on his night-vision. He reached the door that was now open due the lack of power to keep it closed. Spartan raised his weapon and dashed trough the first part of the catwalk. Nothing so far.
Nathan had just reached the first reactor when he noticed something. It could be barely seen, but he knew what it was; an Elite standing not far from the door leading towards the bridge. Spartan started slowly closing in on the Elites trusting on the darknes to keep him almost invisible. Nathan was now close enough to open fire and he didn´t hestiate to do so. Spartan crouched and started fireing at the Elites near the door.

PostSubject: Re: A Breach in the Cole Protocol   A Breach in the Cole Protocol I_icon_minitimeFri May 13, 2011 3:47 pm

Droa heard the sound of the Spartan creeping up on his men too late for it to have been of any use to help his comrade. The Sangheili strike member was severely wounded, but not killed. His extra armor for EVA activity saved his life from the Spartans MA37 rifle. Droa snarled at the Spartan and rushed in to assist his comrade. "Amda, take the others and kill the bridge crew! You know what to do!" Amda, who wanted to kill the intrusive Spartan, knew her place and took the rest of the team to the bridge. Soon, she would secure the AI for Droa.

Droa drew his Energy Sword, and attacked the Spartan. Once Droa found the opening, he shoved the Spartan to the ground, then scooped up his comrade and ran for the rest of his team. This would not stop the Spartan, Droa already knew that much, so he decided to lure the Spartan into a false direction, in order to lure the Spartan away from his team. He sent a hologram down a hallway, but turned off into another. He then set down his comrade in order to seal the door. He grabbed the two ends, and forced them together Then using a Plasma Rifle as a improvised blowtorch, he sealed the door together. Now he had to run to catch up to his team, and hump the wounded Sangheili with him.

When he arrived, the bridge was a mess. Amda and the others had butchered the crew still left on the bridge. And, for once in the entire mission, they had good luck. The captain had removed the AI from the computer and was preparing to depart in a nearby lifepod when one of the Sangheili found him and cut him down with Needler fire. Droa examined the body and found the AI chip. Droa smiled to himself. The mission was a complete success. Now he had to get off the vessel without encountering any more problems. He decided the best thing to do was to head back to the hangar, then call in the 'Light of Honor' to pick him up in a Phantom. "Alright men, lets get out of here." All the team members were smiling. They were about to do what no other Covenant force had done before. Before they left, Droa put the chip in a cavity on his torso armor reserved for high class material. He would have to protect it with all he had.

Nathan heard the golden armored Elite shouting orders to the rest of of the team. Spartan didn´t understand a word they said, but it wasn´ t improtant. Important was that he needed to deny the Covenants acces to the bridge. Nathan quickly realoaded, but he didn´t have the time to do it. The golden armored Elite charged at him swinging its Energy Sword. Spartan dropped his MA37 rifle and started fireing at the Elite with his M6 Handgun. His attempts proved futile as the Elite was too close and its shields were too strong. Nathan tried to punch the Elite, but it was faster. Elite pushed Spartan against the floor and Nathan felt as something crushed under their weight. Spartan tried to struggle his way out, but the Elite holded him tighly against the floor. Suddenly the Elite got up and ran towards the bridge, grapping his wounded comrade. Spartan got up too, trying to find his rifle. For his bad luck, it was crushed under him. Nathan started sprinting after the Elites.

Spartan raised his M6 handgun and fired three shots at the Elite running away from him. To his suprise the bullets went right trough the Elites body. Nathan hadn´t seen many holograms in action, only in training. So this meant that the Covenant had gone even further in technology than humans. Spartan admired the hologram for a moment when he remembered his real objective. Nathan dashed towards the door that lead to the bridge, but it didn´t open in time and he crashed against the door. Spartan examined the door. It was welded shut from the inside. Nathan didn´t have the time or equicment to unweld it. Spartan looked aroun for an alternative route to the bridge. There wasn´t any. All he could do was wait for them to come to him.... Or he could go to the hangar. They needed some way of the ship and pelican wasn´t good enough. They needed a ship. But where would they acuire one? The Reagan was crippled, so it couldn´t go anywhere without an extencive repairs. The only option remaining was that a ship would jump near Reagan, send a Phantom to pick up the Elites and then jump out of the system. If he was correct, then he couldn´t do anything else, expect kill the Elites. But it dosen´t matter, they would send a team to recover the AI and kill him.

"This is UNSC Archangel. We are on the way to your position. What is the situation there?" A voice said over Nathan´s comm. He must have left it on the open frequency.
"This is Spartan-135, can you hear me Archangel?" Nathan answered hastily.
"I repeate, this is Archangel. Reagan can you hear me?" Captain of the Archangel asked. Spartan cursed under his breath. His suits comm wasn´t powerfull enough. Maybe he could divert power from his suits other functions to the comm. Yes, he could do that. Nathan pressed few buttons in his helmet and a warning light stated blinking when it drained power from his shields.
"This is Spartan-135, do you read me Archangel?" Nathan asked over the comm.
"We are reading you Spartan. What is the situation there?" Captain asked.
"The ship is under attack from the Covenant forces and the AI has been stolen. I need immidient dust-off." Captain was silent for a moment. "We´ll come to get you. Come to the hangar 3. Over and out." Nathan clicked his comm off and diverted the power back to his armor. Now he just needed get to the hangar 3.

PostSubject: Re: A Breach in the Cole Protocol   A Breach in the Cole Protocol I_icon_minitimeSun May 15, 2011 9:09 pm

Droa started to feel tiredness creep through his aching muscles. He had been fighting on board the 'Reagan' for what felt like an eternity. Between having to carry a wounded comrade, and running from corridor to corridor, Droa's only desire was to rest. But that was not an option. The more time that they spent aboard the doomed vessel, the more likely it was either the Spartan or a rescue vessel would arrive. So they kept moving. They tried to avoid all combat, if possible, but they became involved in two major firefights. and both of them severely damaged their fighting capability.

The first one occurred in a Cryogenics bay. Droa and his team attempted to cut through the bay in order to return to the hangar. Instead of encountering little or no resistance, they ran into a entire Marine platoon. So, a firefight erupted. Under normal circumstances, the Sangheili strike team should have decimated the platoon, but with both fatigue and a down man, they ran into more trouble than was needed. Their first setback occurred when Droa's Gunner and Weapons officer, Xtan, got careless and moved out of cover. With his shields already weakened, a UNSC marksman shot at Xtan. The first shot broke his shields. The second pierced his leg. Droa, who knew the situation was dangerous enough, and facing the fact he was about to lose his friend, drew his Sword and let out a bloodlust roar. This was not just for looks and adrenaline. The roar frightened the Marines enough for Droa to sprint to their position on the other side without return fire. There Droa decimated them. He found the marksman that injured Xtan, and cut him in half. Droa took strange pleasure in watching his entrails pool on the sterile floor of the Cryo bay. Once he eliminated the opposition, he ran to check on his friend. He seemed to be alright, but he had trouble walking. "I will be fine, General. I just need to walk it off. You guys go on. I'll catch up." Droa snarled at him. :Listen to me. You are going to stick with us. We will make sure you get back safely. I;m not losing any one on my team." Then the wounded Sangheili stated "Thanks for the vote of Confidence." "Soldier, your lucky you survived that Spartan. Not many can tell the story of living through one." They then sorted themselves, and moved on.

By this time, the wounded Sangheili was able to walk, so Droa no longer had to carry him. And now they were almost to their hangar. That was when the second firefight broke out. This time, it was two Spartan-IIIs. "How the fuck did they get in here?! Kill them now!" And so another short firefight broke out. However this time Droa was injured. One of the Spartans took aim with a Sniper rifle at Amda. But she did not notice it until it would have been too late. But Droa intervened. As the Spartan fired the round, Droa jumped in front of it and took the round meant for Amda. Droa felt it pierce his shields and rip through his shoulder. The pain caused him to wince loudly. Now the entire Sangheili team became enraged. They quickly focused on the first Spartan and gunned him down with a hail of Plasma fire. The second one lost his shields, and Droa took aim with his Carbine. He fired at his head, and Droa saw brains and blood spit from the other side. He sighed heavily. Two Spartans were now dead, but they still needed to get off the ship. "'Light of Honor', this is General Falumee, do you copy?" His Executive Officer, Croh, responded. "Yes, sir. We can tell your ready for extraction. ETA, ten minutes." Droa gathered himself and prepared for another battle. "Alright, lets lock this place down. We have got to hold it until the 'Light of Honor' sends a Phantom to retrieve us."
